On Sunday 4th August Gloucester Park will be hosting the City’s 57th Jamaican Independence festival. There will be plenty of things to see and do at this family friendly event, from football tournaments, arts & crafts and traditional sports day games. During the evening there will be fantastic musical performances form community choirs, local performers and a special performer or two that we can’t yet reveal!
This bright and colourful family orientated festival can only run though with the help of volunteer stewards. We need people to help with the setting up and down of stalls and activities, and also help run and look after those activities. We need other volunteers to help direct people around the site, answer their questions about what is happening when and deal with the crowds at the evening stage shows.
The festival funday will run for the public from 11am to about 9.15pm. However, we need some volunteers from about 9am to help us set up stalls and activities and others that are willing to be there until about 10.30pm to help unassembled everything. We’ll also need volunteers in between to help run the activities, direct people around the site and answer their questions about where and when different activities and events are happening.
You’ll need a friendly and confident manner in dealing with people and a good enthusiasm for family and community activities. We don’t expect people to volunteer for the whole day with us (although if you do want to be with us from set up to set down you are very welcome) so even if you just have a few hours to spare we’d be delighted for your help. We’ll brief you with all the information you need about the festival so even if you are not familiar with the Jamaican Independence Festival, this is not a barrier to you helping us out.
The Jamaican Independence festival is a community and all inclusive festival that welcomes all people to enjoy, participate in and volunteer at, so please do sign up for this challenge and help us out.
