Art Shape’s vision is that all people can choose to engage with the arts as equals. We work to combat exclusion from the arts with particular focus on working with adults facing disabling barriers. We are driving social change by informing policy through research, identifying gaps in arts provision and stimulating the development of new possibilities in the arts. We believe in the power of the arts to change lives and improve health and wellbeing. We are committed to creativity and imagination, equality and access.
Volunteer participation can vary depending on the project, for example:
Art Shape hold exhibitions throughout the year at different venues around Gloucestershire. These are busy times and we always need help with documenting, mount cutting, printing, framing artwork, setting up and invigilating. Why not get involved and support emerging artists.
We run Of Course We Can summer holiday projects for disabled and non-disabled children. These often involve lots of craft, film, drama, animation and dance- we need committed volunteers to spend the week getting to know the children involved and offering support. Street Life was a holiday club for ages 14-25 where the participants took part in lots of street art related activities and even created their own piece of street art in Cheltenham.
Art Shape also gets involved with numerous community events such as Gloucester Carnival and Art in the City. Recent Art Shape volunteers worked with a variety of Gloucester community groups to make fantastic costumes for the carnival parade.
