Give a Day

Tall Ships 25th – 27th May 2019

Gloucester Tall Ships and Adventure Festival will take place over the long weekend of 25th – 27th May 2019 down at Gloucester docks. As usual, it will be a lively event featuring Tall Ships alongside a fabulous programme of activities and cultural programming.

We are looking for volunteers to support our programme of activity in our vibrant and colourful performance areas which provide great entertainment for festival goers. Over the three days there will be music, dance and circus performances and it is a really important part of the overall Tall Ships event.

You will work with the Zone Managers and Producers to help ensure the smooth running of the performance area, making sure both audience and performers have a great experience. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants experience in festivals and events; enjoys culture and likes working as part of a varied team of people.

What's involved?

You will be assisting the Zone Managers and Producers to ensure the smooth running of the performance areas. This will involve things such as:

• Direct the public and answer their questions about the Festival

• Welcome and manage the audiences for each performance

• Set up the performance area – helping performers set up equipment as necessary

• Supporting the Zone Manager and Producer to ensure the performances run on time.

• Pick up litter

• Welcome the performers and ensure they have everything they need “backstage”

• Escort artists and musicians to their performance area

• Escort artists to and from the green room.

• Make sure the green room is clean and tidy

The festival runs for three days. You can commit to doing a full day (9.30am – 6.30pm) or a half day of 9am – 2pm or 1.30pm – 6.30pm. Or you can do a combination of these. If you’d like to join us for all three days of the festival we would be delighted to welcome you.

The festival site is large and the vast majority of the tasks will involve you being on your feet all day and covering a fair few miles in the process, so a good standard of mobility and fitness is quite important. However, we are an inclusive festival so if you have any particular needs please do get in touch with us, as there is a good chance we can still accommodate you in a volunteering role with us.

If you would like more information without committing yourself to volunteering, please do get in touch with us at Info@marketinggloucester.co.uk and we would be delighted to talk things over with you.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Why get involved?

The event site is large and you will be able to experience lots of different aspects of the Festival, working closely with different specialities to gain an understanding of how Festivals operate. You will also gain and practice team working and customer service skills whilst working with a large cross section of the public. Such skills are very useful for a whole host of volunteer and paid work situations (so very useful ones to be able to talk about at interviews and on your CV) as well as general social situations.

Depending on what tasks you are doing you’ll also be able to watch some of the performances and see the Tall Ships themselves for free.

There is always a great buzz to Tall Ships so it is a fantastic and high profile thing to say that you have been part of.

We offer a free meal to anyone who volunteers for a whole day.  Drinking water is provided free of charge. You will also receive a Festival T Shirt. You will have breaks during your shift to experience the Festival.

How to get involved?
