The Heritage Hub at Gloucestershire Archives now opens on the first Saturday of the month. We will be running arts and crafts children’s activities, from 2- 4 in the afternoon so all the family can get involved with all that the Archives has to offer. We need volunteers to help with these family friendly sessions.
Each monthly family afternoon will have a different theme and will link into documents, maps, pictures and photographs that we hold in the Archives. As a volunteer for the sessions you’ll be helping set out and top up any materials needed for the crafts and helping with any games and other activities. The activities are all family focused, so the children will have their own adult parent or carer support, but you’ll be there to help get activities started and keep them going.
Why get involved?
Archives are often seen as daunting, adult only places, where you have to be deathly quiet, serious and studious. We want to banish that perception (although serious studious adults are always welcome) and make our amazing archives come to life for families, children and young people. Our monthly Saturday afternoon family session will involve arts, games and crafts to allow children and young people to really explore what we can offer.
It will be a great opportunity to gain experience working with families and children in a relaxed creative setting. You’ll build up your communication and group management skills as well as having the chance to be creative and express your artistic side. You’ll also have access to a different part of our collections each month.
Gloucestershire Archives is able to pay reasonable volunteer expenses – such as for travel. We want our volunteer opportunities to be open to all, so if you have additional needs but do want to volunteer with us we will make every effort to support you to do so.
