Regular Help

Treasure Seekers Lighthouse volunteer

Here at Treasure Seekers we believe that every single person has something to give to the community. We also believe that when someone is in a nurturing community they can grow and develop to become the best version of themselves. All of our volunteering opportunities are fully supported to help you be part of something bigger, grow and develop your skills and grow in confidence.

We need volunteers for the Lighthouse centre above the Treasure Seekers hub on Westgate Street. At the Lighthouse centre our volunteers help adults with learning disabilities discover and achieve their dreams while having fun and enjoying their community. We help each member of our growing family to embrace and develop their own natural abilities as well as exploring new and exciting possibilities. We combine self-directed learning with enablement, social development and fun-filled enrichment through creative use of a wide range of both in-house and community activities. We provide a guide to help each of our users live the most enhanced, fulfilling and independent lives they can.

·         The Lighthouse is a different kind of day centre. We provide hourly, half day or day long sessions where in a fun, friendly, family atmosphere our users can develop new and existing skills through gentle encouragement and guidance from our experienced staff and volunteers.

We positively welcome all people in our community as volunteers at Treasure Seekers.

What's involved?

As a volunteer you will be working with experienced members of staff to help support those with learning difficulties that use our services. You may be involved with supporting particular individuals or working more generally with a group. Activities will be wide and varied, for example you may help support people to develop better road safety awareness, good cash handling skills to help then shop and travel, or develop skills to complete household chores safely. You might also accompany our group on trips out within the city centre and beyond or help them complete creative work.

Why get involved?

Volunteering at The Lighthouse will allow you to develop, practice and strengthen communication, interaction and motivational skills working with adults living with learning difficulties. It is a very sociable role and you will be fully supported throughout your volunteering. Your work will have real meaningful impact on the lives of the people that use our services both long term and immediately.

This would be a great role for anyone considering going into social care, SEN teaching or general work with adults that need support into their community. It’s also a fantastic role if you enjoy working with a diverse group of people and enjoy seeing how you can make a difference to someone’s quality of life.
