Together in Matson is based at the Redwell Community Centre right in the heart of Matson. Its local community face many challenges, but also have many talents, skills and ambition at their disposal. With support, nurturing and guidance these hidden strengths and talents can be unlocked to allow the community and individuals to blossom, achieve their aspirations and lead fulfilling healthy lives that make a positive difference to the world.
The Centre, like all buildings in regular public use, needs constant maintenance and repair and the odd re-paint. And that is exactly what we need now for our sports hall. Nothing tricky, nothing too fancy – just a new coat of paint to brighten up the place and get it looking its best. Fancy giving it a go?
This volunteer challenge is exactly what it says on the (paint) tin! We have a sports hall and we need it painting. We’ve got all the equipment, all the paint, brushes and step ladders that will be needed – you just need to bring yourself, enthusiasm, old clothes you don’t mind getting splashed with paint and stout flat shoes for maximum comfort and safety. There are door frames and light switches to go round, but mostly it is big open walls to paint.
We’d love a team, whether that’s a band of colleagues from the workplace, a group of scouts, guides, WI members of just a few people off your street to come together to tackle this task – sports halls are big and many hands do make light work. However, if you are just on your own and fancy putting it a few days volunteering we won’t turn you away.
We can be quite flexible about when this volunteer challenge is undertaken, so we can fit in with a corporate volunteering day, or something like that.

Why get involved?
Our sports hall is used by many people in our local community including lots of people with special or additional needs and those that would be unable to access any kind of organised sport or exercise otherwise. It is central to allowing people to exercise, form friendships, work as a team and have fun. Like all buildings and rooms the Redwell Centre needs constant maintenance and decorating and our sports hall is no exception. A good lick of paint will brighten it up no end and give people a good looking place to do games, sports and exercise.
You will also be helping us save money by not having to use trades-people or staff time to do the job and so we will be able to use the money saved for other community uses.
We think this would be a great teambuilding volunteer task and a good chance to socialise whilst making a real difference for our community. And we also have a good supply of tea and biscuits!
