Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum – Media placement

The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum collects and displays artefacts and memorabilia of the county's regiments – The Gloucestershire Regiment and the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars. Some of our visitors and enquirers are current service-people or veterans or those with particularly strong links and knowledge of the Gloucestershire’s, but we also get in lots of family groups and other visitors that are not at all familiar with military history, army life or indeed the story of our regiments.

People visiting in person can enjoy our permanent and temporary exhibitions, take part in trails, talks, tours, crafts, educational sessions and other events as well as relax in our café or browse our shop. We also have a stunning regimental room for hire for meetings or celebrations. The Museum also goes out and about and attends public events and puts on activities elsewhere so people can learn about the regiment’s history. We also serve people through answering email and postal enquiries about the regiment or people’s ancestors.

What's involved?

We would really like help with all aspects of marketing and social media profiles, ensuring that we put out more content and engage more fully with our followers. We’d like to reach more people to spread the word about our exhibitions and events as well as the Regiment’s great history and highlight commemorations, celebrations and achievements of the wider Armed Forces today. We’d like our social media accounts to be pro-active in engaging and re-acting to social media and news stories as well so we engage well with our established audiences and grown and develop our audience base to spread awareness of what we do. We would also like help with designing and producing posters, leaflets and the website, as well as maximising opportunities at events and activities that we do to spread the word about the Museum.

We are interested in your innovative ideas, from films, animations to artworks and live performances to help us publicise the museums as well as assistance with more traditional forms of marketing.

We are keen to have you with us as soon as is mutually convenient. We would be happy to take someone for a block placement, but more ideal would be a regular slot with us, say weekly or fortnightly. We are happy to take individuals or to have a small group working collaboratively to help us.

You would be based in the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, Custom House, Gloucester Docks, 31 Commercial Rd, Gloucester GL1 2HE. It is close to car parks and public transport hubs. If you have any particular access needs do not hesitate to get in contact with us to discuss them.
